Bruggink advises De Boer: ‘Crazy when he is passed by’

ESPN analyst Arnold Bruggink thinks that Mitchel Bakker is ready for a place in the EK selection of the Dutch national team this summer. The leftback started Wednesday evening at the base at Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the Champions League against Manchester City.
โ€œI am certainly surprised that he is now reaching this levelโ€, says Bruggink in conversation with the Algemeen Dagblad. โ€œBut I think its a good example for guys who dare to make other choices. We always think here in the Dutch way. A career has to go neatly through the beaten roads. But abroad, football is very different. In the Netherlands, we often look at what players cant do, but if it falls better for someone else, sometimes you can do more than you think.โ€
Bruggink thinks Frank de Boer cant get around Bakker this summer. It is a disadvantage for Bakker that he left for France at an early age. โ€œYou also have Owen Wijndal who makes steps and we see him playing every week. But I also think De Boer keeps a close eye on Bakker. It would be crazy to pass him towards the European Championshipsโ€, concludes Bruggink.
