Busy on roads to forests and sea

On the beach, in the dunes, forests and other nature reserves it was busy Saturday afternoon as expected. Because of the beautiful spring weather with maxima around 19 degrees, many people went out. However, in most places it was not too crowded: except for the parking lot of the Waterleidingduinen in Zandvoort, there were no access roads or parking spaces to be closed.

According to a spokesman for the municipality of Zandvoort it became too busy on Saturday morning at the Waterleidingduinen, and the parking lot at the Zandvoortselaan was closed for a short time. โ€œThat was soon resolved again. Furthermore, it was a busy, but pleasant day in Zandvoort,โ€ said the spokesman. People were following the coronare rules, keeping enough distance at stalls where food and drinks could be collected.

In the woods and other nature reserves it was nowhere too busy, according to a spokesperson for Natuurmonumenten. โ€œWe are warned when things get too busy somewhere, and when measures are needed, such as road closures or parking spaces. That was not the case today. People enjoyed the weather very much, just like the forest rangers,โ€ said the spokesman.

On many roads towards nature was the bustle Saturday afternoon to notice. On the Brouwersdam between Zeeland and Zuid-Holland there was a traffic jam of 7 kilometers just after 14.00 hours. Around 15.00 hrs there was a short traffic jam on the N201 towards Zandvoort, which resulted in a delay of fifteen minutes.

Along the coast, police officers, boas and traffic attendants were supervised, and in nature areas, foresters were especially alert because of the corona measures. According to the ANWB, the roads to Scheveningen and Hoek van Holland had traffic jams of several kilometers.

‘If it is too busy, leave it’

A large number of municipalities, including The Hague, called on Friday not to go into nature and avoid crowded places. โ€œIf it‘s too busy, go away. Always keep a distance of 1.5 meters, so even in good weather. Don’t go out with more than one person from another household,โ€ tweeted the municipality.
