The head of Microsoft Gaming and Xbox Phil Spencer said that in January he sent a letter to PlayStation boss Jim Ryan. In it, he assured that if the deal with Activision Blizzard is completed, the Call of Duty series will not disappear from Playstation consoles. As Spencer explained to The Verge, the company provided Sony with a signed an agreement that guarantees that Call of Duty will be available on PlayStation for several years longer than the current contract.
The head of Xbox does not say exactly when the current contract is due, but , according to some reports, the franchise deal may expire in 2024. And the company wants to assure you that this will not be a reason to withdraw the legendary series from Sony consoles.
Microsoft is currently trying to complete the purchase of Activision Blizzard. And regulators intend to comprehensively study this deal to ensure that it does not result in a violation of the antimonopoly agreement.
The main stumbling block is the two largest gaming franchises: Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. Regulators fear that it will be almost impossible to create series that could compete with them on an equal footing.
According to Sony, the Call of Duty series has long been an “independent gaming category”. More on Gambling With us JoJo: Jojos Bizarre Adventure was released: All-Star Battle R PC version of Persona 3 Portable received a rating in Korea Splitgate creators announced halting game development.
