Category 4 Hurricane Iota landed in Central America

Hurricane Iota landed in the Central American country Nicaragua at around 19:00 (local time) on Monday evening. On Monday evening (local time), Iota was downgraded from category 5, the maximum category, to category 4

the hurricane rages about 45 kilometres south of the port city of Puerto Cabezas. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, there is wind speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour.

The authorities in Honduras and Guatemala indicated earlier that they expect major floods and urged residents to evacuate regions that are still recovering from the major devastation left behind by the previous hurricane, Eta.

That hurricane hit the region two weeks ago, causing floods and mudslides that killed dozens of people. Eta drew a trail of destruction from Panama to southern Mexico.
