Chelsea took a first step to the Champions League final at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano. The Blues came to visit Real Madrid as a head start, saw Karim Benzema even in the pouring rain, but can start the return at home with a 1-1 ‘lead’.
The first half of the half-finals by Danny Weedie went spectacularly, thanks to Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel‘s team cheekly sought their way forward and got in the way early. Timo Werner gave Thibaut Courtois the chance to defuse a great opportunity, but Christian Pulisic scored a little later after a handsome individual action: 0-1.
Real Madrid now had to react and set his hopes on vedette Benzema: the Frenchman did not disappoint. First he hit the pole with a spectacular attempt of distance, after half an hour he took care of the handsome 1-1: take on the chest and take it out of the sky at once. However, the best odds remained for Chelsea: Werner came through again in the end of the first half, but missed again.
After rest there was something less to experience. Real Madrid had to actually look for a 2-1, but hardly came to chances. Chelsea needed less and didn’t become very dangerous either. The invaded Hakim Ziyech tried it with a free kick, which could easily be caught by Courtois. On the other hand, a remote attempt of Toni Kroos was bumped via beside and Raphaël Varane was heading in front of the next corner.
However, it remained at 1-1: The Royal and The Blues will repeat in London on Wednesday evening and will be able to decide who will make the final at Stamford Bridge. By that time it will also become clear whether Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City will be the other final team.
