Its round: Chelsea takes over Saúl Niguez from Atlético Madrid. The Champions League winner from England and Spanish champion will announce that after the transfer deadline.
Chelsea hires Saúl until the end of the Atlético season and pays five million euros for that. For an unconfirmed amount of 40 million euros, the 26-year-old Spaniard will be finally taken over next year.
In addition to Chelsea, Manchester United was linked to Saúl this summer, who is under contract at Atlético for another five years. With his salary, he put heavily on the budget in Madrid, allowing him to leave. Antoine Griezmann (to Atlético) and Luuk de Jong (to Barcelona) now seem to make a transfer as well.
Last season, when Atlético became national champion, Saúl was a fixed value. When meeting Villarreal last Sunday (2-2), the nineteen-time international started on the bank. In the other two league duels, in which he gave one assist, Saúl was able to count on trainer Diego Simeones trust.
“I am very excited to take on this new challenge at Chelsea,” Saúl comments on his new clubs website. “Blues fans, I am one of you now and I cant wait to wear the shirt, start training and see you all. Goodbye!”
Saúl jugará cedido en el Chelsea hasta el 30 de junio. ¡Te deseamos lo mejor, te lo mereces! ➡ https://t.co/ibBfv5gDIE pic.twitter.com/UIJ5TGScie
