Chinese climate activist Wang Xiangjun (30), who gained prominence through his enthusiastic social media videos about glaciers and climate problems, was most likely killed filming a glacier in Tibet.
In recent years, Wang Xiangjun climbed dozens of glaciers and reported on them through videos. He already had about 3 million followers on social media. His videos in which he visited glacier crevices and caverns at risk of his own life went all over the world and gave him the nickname Glacier Brother, reports The Independent.
During his antics, he noticed that the condition of the glaciers was rapidly deteriorating. He sounded the alarm and soon he was also a popular speaker.
Last week, Tibet went wrong. While filming a glacier, Wang lost his balance and fell into an icy cold waterfall. He was probably dead shortly after, and his body is now under the ice of a glacier lake. The body hasnt been found yet.
Wangs brother confirmed in a statement on his brothers account that Glacier Brother is no longer alive. “My brother is forever in his favorite waterfall.”
