Entrepreneurs who have suffered damage as a result of the riots in the introduction of curfew will be able to go to a public damage fund from today. That fund is intended for loss that is not covered by insurance.
Minister Grapperhaus writes to the House of Representatives that the fund‘s counter office, which is housed at the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland, has been open since this afternoon. It is aimed at entrepreneurs who have suffered damage to their premises or to their stock or inventory.
It is exceptional that government intervenes to compensate uninsured damage, says the Minister of Justice and Security. “However, this is a very exceptional situation at an exceptional time which was not foreseen by any of the parties involved.”
“ What happened in cities like Den Bosch, Rotterdam or Zwolle is criminal and outrageous,” he adds. “Entrepreneurs who are already having such a hard time get extra worries.”
The claims settlement was drawn up in consultation with the Association of Insurers and the employers‘ organisations VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland.
