Cocu denies: “If I applied, I know enough people at PSV”

Before Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed to succeed Roger Schmidt, old well-known Phillip Cocu seemed to be one of the most serious options: after Schmidt announced he left PSV, Cocu was often spotted standing out at his old club. However, the currently club-less trainer denies in Rondo that he forced himself into Eindhoven.
In February, Schmidt announced his departure and it was announced that Marcel Brands — with whom Cocu has worked successfully for many years — would return as managing director. Cocu was then caught at De Herdgang and watched a game of the Eindhoven residents together with Commissioner Hans van Breukelen. There was no question of a disguised application, however, he says in the Ziggo Sport talk show. If I were to apply, I know enough people at PSV that I can approach. I dont have to sit in the stands for that.
Cocu emphasizes that he can often be found at PSV. Sometimes in the stands, sometimes in the business lounge, sometimes in De Verlengening (the eatery in the stadium, ed.). And coincidentally, I was invited to dinner on this occasion, prior to the game. Just before the start of the match against sc Heerenveen, he met Van Breukelen. I
ve known Hans for so long and I see no reason — because the trainer just announced this — to do anything else. I think you just have to stay yourself and I did.
Cocu therefore maintains that his visit to the Philips Stadium was separate from the rumors surrounding the trainer vacancy. I love joining PSV, I also live in that city. And if I couldnt do that anymore, because there are rumors… it will be a difficult story.
