For Phillip Cocu, Vitesse still has a lot of work to do. The debuting trainer saw the Arnhemmers lose a chance at FC Twente: 3-0.
Cocu has not yet made any major changes to Vitesses team, which started the season very difficult. Even in De Grolsch Veste, the Gelderland club barely finished anything. After four minutes, Robin Pröpper issued a first warning, but his header went wrong. By the way, after more than fifteen minutes, the defender had to continue with a turban after a painful collision with Matus Bero.
FC Twente was now lord and master and hit the pole via Vaclav Cerny. The deserved opening goal fell after 37 minutes. After a through ball by Cerny, Joshua Brenet showed up for Kjell Scherpen, who had no answer to the right-back bet. Cocu saw that Vitesse could do nothing about that. The visitors just handed in one ball after the other.
In the second half, Vitesse looked a little more stable defensively, but again little was done offensively. Only substitute Baden Frederiksen thought he could come face to face with Twente goalkeeper Przemysław Tyton. However, he was caught in time by the Twente defenders. Not much later, the decision fell on the other side. Virgil Misidjan sought out his opponent and shot into the far corner.
The final chord was for Gijs Smal. The left back lashed out from a distance and achieved a nice goal. Twente thus reaches sixteen points, keeping it in the wake of the top teams. Cocu will not have enjoyed his debut with Vitesse, which is stuck at five points. In addition, a lot still seems to need to be done to turn the tide.
