Copenhagen death toll out of three, arrested suspect confessed to police

The shooting incident at a shopping center in Copenhagen has cost the lives of at least three people. Furthermore, several people have been injured, three of whom are in critical condition. The chief of the police in the Danish capital announced that.

A gunman opened fire at the Fields mall, one of Scandinavias largest, yesterday at the end of the afternoon. Eleven minutes later, a suspect was arrested nearby, a 22-year-old man of Danish descent. He had a firearm and ammunition with him.

According to the police chief, the suspect is an acquaintance of the police, but he did not explain that. For the time being, the authorities assume a one-man act.

Here are images of what happened inside:

The shooters motive is being investigated. A terrorist act is not ruled out, although the police chief did not want to anticipate it. The next day, the suspect will be questioned in the presence of a judge.

Prime Minister Frederiksen has reacted with horror to the incident in her country, where gun violence is relatively rare. She speaks of โ€œa cruel attackโ€ and calls on the Danes to support each other โ€œat this difficult timeโ€.
