Crashed bomber taken out of the water after 77 years

A special operation starts today on the Markermeer in Flevoland. A group of researchers will try to bring a British plane from the Second World War to the surface.

The wreckage of the bomber was accidentally discovered 12 years ago. Divers had already brought up several parts. Researchers are now going to take the entire plane out of the water. They also want to find out exactly who was in the plane.

Probably they were British and Canadian soldiers. The brother of the now 93-year old Edith McLeod was probably also on board. She’s very happy with the investigation. She’s hoping that her brother’s body will be found so they can bury it.

All the wreckage is supposed to be taken out of the water in five weeks.
