Crew Russian bomber died after error with ejection seat

Three crew members of a Russian fighter plane died when their ejector seat went off accidentally. That happened during an exercise on a military base 145 kilometers southwest of the capital Moscow, says the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The four-headed crew of a long-range bomber type Toepolev Tu-22M3 prepared for a training mission. At takeoff, the reject system failed and the four were launched.

Three crew members died of their injuries. The fourth is in the hospital. The plane didnt come high enough to activate the parachutes, is the statement from the Ministry.

The Tu-22M3 is a bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The type was developed in the 1960s. At the moment, there are about sixty modernized versions of them in use. The Russian Ministry has launched an investigation into the accident.
