Da Cruz sees no future at Groningen, but Fledderus relies on agreement

FC Groningen would like to capture Alessio da Cruz, but the wing attacker is not waiting for that. Da Cruz wants to return to Italy, but according to technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus of the Pride of the North, that is not so easy.
Groningen took over Da Cruz last summer on a rental basis from Parma, with an option to buy. โ€œLast summer we actually signed a four-year contract between FC Groningen and Alessio da Cruz,โ€ says Fledderus to RTV Noord. โ€œThat consisted of a rental period of one year, followed by a three-year contract if the option was lifted. We agreed with Parma that we have until June to highlight the option.โ€
Groningen therefore believes that Da Cruz actually already has a four-year contract, but still talks. The 24-year-old assailant wants to go back to Italy. โ€œI have told you several times. Fledderus continues to say that he is open to keep me at FC Groningen for longer. Thats kind of hard for me, because I want to go back to Italy. I am now trying to get rid of it a bit and to close it as best as possible in Groningen.โ€
Da Cruz has so far been in action twenty times, scoring twice and giving three assists. He acknowledges that after a nice start he did not reach his level anymore. โ€œNext season I want to play somewhere that I
m almost sure will come out. In Italy, it has always come out with me. Thats why Id like to go back to Italy for sure. That doesnt necessarily have to be Parma. I would like to start somewhere with a clean slate.โ€
