The premier league debut of German Vitesse coach Thomas Letsch ended in a 1-0 victory at RKC Waalwijk. Algerian striker Oussama Darfalou became matchwinner.
Already in the third minute, Vitesse had its first big chance. However, Oussama Tannane shot eye to eye with RKC goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou in front.
Vitesse was stronger for halftime and also got chances through the Openda Loïs, rented from Club Brugge, which shot over twice and saw a bet stopped. On the stroke of half time Darfalou gave the Arnhemmers a lead by throwing the ball over Lamprou after a combination through the middle.
RKC was more attacking after the break. Saïd Bakari and James Efmorfidis missed the goal and the bets of captain Anas Tahiri and Lennerd Daneels were stopped by goalkeeper Remko Pasveer. The guests, however, stood their ground and handed out pinholes via Tannane.
By adding the three points Vitesse trainer Letsch did the same as his compatriots Roger Schmidt and Frank Wormuth. The latter two also won in the first round of the premier league, with respectively PSV at FC Groningen (1-3) and Heracles Almelo against ADO Den Haag (2-0).
