Frank de Boer did not intend to start with Owen Wijndal in the Nations League duel of Orange with Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the left-back of AZ has given his candidacy a big boost. He made a strong impression in the training intercountry against Spain (1-1).
“Thats the beauty of football,” explains the coach to DeccEit. “Guys can make you doubt.” With Patrick van Aanholt, Wijndal will decide who is in the base on Sunday. “Owen was fantastic. Its nice that he left such a very good impression, thats what you hope. That guys show it and make it hard for me. He really threw away the trepidation of his first interland against Mexico.”
De Boer saw that attacking Wijndal had his contribution with an assist, but also defending he stood his man. “He faced very good direct opponents, also one who could compete in a bodybuild contest,” laughs De Boer, referring to substitute Adama Traoré.
