De Graafschap started the new season in the first division with a victory. FC Den Bosch was defeated in Doetinchem with some fortune 4-2.
Den Bosch did not hide and got the first chances. Jizz Hornkamp, Ryan Trotman and Brem Soumaoro had the 1-0 on the shoe, but De Graafschap goalkeeper Rody de Boer was in the way. De Graafschap did score just before half time, due to a header by Toine van Huizen.
Julian Lelieveld’s own goal made it 1-1, but De Graafschap straightened their backs and struck hard in just a few minutes. Daryl van Mieghem and Elmo Lieftink scored two minutes apart. Johnatan Opoku then popped the 4-1 against the ropes.
Hornkamp, who had already hit the bar after the break, headed 4-2, but it was no longer exciting. Excelsior and NAC, who both won 6-1, took the lead after the first round of play. Also Roda JC, SC Cambuur, FC Eindhoven and Helmond Sport took the full loot in their first game.
