Debuting Botman ties first game with Lille

Sven Botman made his debut in the Ligue 1. The Dutch defender was in the base with Lille in the home game against Rennes (1-1) and made the ninety minutes full.

Not much later referee Clรฉment Turpin drew the second red card of the match. Lille defender Reinildo Mandavo thought Turpin’s tackle was too hard and had to leave the field.

As well as the number of players on the field, the score was evened out. Rennes captain Damien Da Silva slipped from a corner into 1-1.

Eight million

Botman made the switch from Ajax to Lille this summer. The northern French club had to get deep in their pockets for the central defender, who hadn’t played any league game for Ajax yet. Lille paid eight million to the Amsterdammers, after which Botman signed a contract for five seasons.

At the end of the season, 20-year-old Botman played on a rental basis for sc Heerenveen, where he quickly put himself in the spotlight. He played a total of thirty games for the Frisians, scoring twice. Four times, the defender delivered an assist.
