Desserts deal gets tricky

Feyenoord can buy Cyriel Dessers for four million euros from KRC Genk, but the Rotterdam club is not there yet. Because the transfer from Dessers was rented from Genk at the last minute, Feyenoord was unable to make contract agreements for after a possible purchase.
Technical director Frank Arnesen wonders if Feyenoord is able to retain Dessers. โ€œThe price is known, four million euros. But thats not the only thing. We have also not yet been able to speak to Cyriel about the conditions for a possible longer stay. Because his transfer really only came about a few minutes before the transfer deadline was closed, there was no time left for that,โ€ Arnesen told Voetbal International.
โ€œHe was already in Madrid, was going to sign with Lรฉganes, when I got his agent on the line. It looks like it won
t happen anyway, are you looking for another striker? We were definitely looking for that. I said take him to a hotel, well take care of the rest. Our in-house lawyer Joris van Bentem went to work like a rocket to finish all the formalities on time. At five to twelve, everything was completed, but with Cyriel we were no longer able to agree on a possible future contract,โ€ says Arnesen.
โ€œSo you understand that we still had to make every effort to get his temporary transition done on time at all. Moreover, few to no one could have anticipated that he would do so well now. Meanwhile, interest in him has only grown.โ€
In summary: if Feyenoord highlights the purchase option, it still has to negotiate with Dessers about the personal terms and conditions. There is a chance that the striker can sign for much more money elsewhere.
