Difficult victory for Murray in his first race in 2020

Andy Murray has made it to the second round of the master tournament in New York. In his first official match in nine months, the Scotsman won 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-1 from American Frances Tiafoe.

Two-time tournament winner Murray had to work hard for the win. The Scotsman looked far from fit, was constantly fussing but defeated Tiafoe on character and because his service in the third set finally went a little better.

In the second round Murray is facing the German Alexander Zverev, the world’s number seven. Murray – in 2016 number one of the world – has now descended to number 129.
