Dominant Orange controls Poland: two blemishes on simple victory

The Dutch team took a big step towards the Nations League Final Four on Thursday. The Orange was too strong for Poland by 2-0 due to goals by Cody Gakpo and Steven Bergwijn. The setbacks were the breakdown of Teun Koopmeiners and Memphis Depay.
Louis van Gaal gave Remko Pasveer his debut at the age of 38, Cody Gakpo played at ten and Koopmeiners also appeared at the kick-off. However, the Atalanta Bergamo midfielder in shape had a disaster start. He went to the ground within a minute after a collision with Karol Linetty and had to leave the field by stretcher. Steven Berghuis replaced him.

What a tedious start to the competition for Teun Koopmeiners. After a collision, it is ready for the midfielder after one minute. With the stretcher, he is finally carried off the field. Steven Berghuis is his replacement. #POLNED

After that downer, the Dutch quickly turned the game to its hand, although Piotr Zielinskis first shot on goal was. For a long time, it was pretty much Polands only feat that escaped in the twelfth minute when Daley Blind had the ball to tap after Berghuiss perfect cross. The left back did not hit the ball properly. A minute later, the 0-1 fell after all. After a brilliant attack via Berghuis, Memphis and Denzel Dumfries, Gakpo tapped in.

Goal! Or rather: great goal! 🤩 After a formidable attack, the man in blood taps the ball into the ball and so the Orange is ahead within fifteen minutes. #POLNED

The Orange was lord and master in Warsaw and therefore had little to worry about the invisible Robert Lewandowski. Debutant Pasveer only had to perform again before the break on a shot by Nicola Zalewski. On the other hand, at the same time, the Netherlands failed to distance itself further.
With Marten de Roon for Frenkie de Jong, the Orange also faced a setback at the beginning of the second half. Memphis had to deal with hamstring complaints for Vincent Janssen. Not much later, almost 1-1 fell, when the also invaded Arek Milik shot over at close range. Poland became more dangerous, but the Netherlands struck at the right time. After a combination with Janssen, Bergwijn made it 0-2 after an hour.

Oh no… another injury. Now its Memphis. Hopefully its not that bad, but this doesnt look good. #POLNED

The hope of the home team, where Feyenoorder Sebastian Szymanski was switched after seventy minutes, was thus lost. At the Netherlands, another debutant came in with Kenneth Taylor, while Wout Weghorst also filled in. The former quickly prepared for Besiktas striker, who hit the ball wrong. Goalscorer Gakpo also tried again, but there were no more goals.
The victory over Poland will allow the Netherlands to secure first place in Division A group 4 on Sunday. Van Gaals team in Amsterdam defends a three-point lead over Belgium, which won 2-1 against Wales. The national coach will also be pleased to note that the Orange was dominant and held zero against another World Cup participant.

💥 2-0! BERGWIJN 💥 Everyone knows: if you have a hard time in the game, just score a goal. Certainly also 👏 for Vincent Janssen. #POLNED
