‘Don’t make it too heavy: Ruud doesn’t have to solve the war in Ukraine’

Guus Hiddink will follow the first job as head coach of Ruud van Nistelrooy with above-average interest. The former coach remains involved with PSV in an advisory role, but will not come to the forefront.
Van Nistelrooy started his new job at De Herdgang on Monday. โ€œJust good for Ruud to get in now, you have to start sometime,โ€ Hiddink is quoted by Algemeen Dagblad. โ€œOver the past few years, he has laid a good surface. Make no mistake: Ruud has been at it for about nine years. He has built it up step by step. I know him as a smart man who isn‘t afraid to make decisions.โ€
Hiddink and Van Nistelrooy also worked together in 2014 and 2015, at the time as national coach and assistant at the Dutch national team. โ€œOf course, a lot is coming to him, he starts in an atypical season, with a World Cup in Qatar in November and December between November and December. But don’
t make it too hard either: as a football coach, you don‘t have to solve the war in Ukraine,โ€ says Hiddink. โ€œSomeone like Fred Rutten is also valuable in his staff. Fred has never been one of the elbows, who does not prey on Ruud’s orbit himself. A loyal guy as an assistant, fine.โ€
Van Nistelrooy himself hinted that he is happy with the composition of the current policy. In addition to Rutten, Marcel Brands has also returned to PSV. Brands acts as general manager and takes over from the departed Toon Gerbrands.
