Double play specialist Koolhof reaches first grand final

Dutch success in New York. Wesley Koolhof and his Croatian partner Nikola Mektic have qualified for the finals of the US Open. So far he never made it to a grand slam tournament.

Koolhof and Mektic, placed eighth, won with 7-6 (3), 6-4 of the third ranked British/American duo Joe Salisbury/Rajeev Ram, who won the Australian Open earlier this year.

Possibly Koolhof will meet another Dutchman in the finals: Jean-Julien Rojer. He still has to play the other semifinal with his Romanian partner Horia Tecau.

The men’s doubles of the US Open got three times a Dutch winner. In 1976 Tom Okker triumphed together with the American Marty Riessen, in 1994 Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis and in 2017 Rojer and Tecau.
