Kian Fitz-Jim (photo) and Rio Hillen are knocking on the door at Jong Ajax this season, after having played together for years. The two seventeen-year-old youth internationals once walked around AFC in Amsterdam, met each other at AZ and moved together to Ajax.
In the summer of 2019 midfielder Fitz-Jim and defender Hillen made the switch at the same time. “I think we were approached a little at the same time. But with him it was announced earlier,” Fitz-Jim tells about his buddy Hillen in front of the Ajax channels. The two realise that their transfer was sensitive. “We talked about it sometimes. It wasn‘t really a taboo, but we couldn’t talk about it openly either.”
However, Hillen did not hesitate for a moment when Ajax knocked on the door, he says one and a half years after the date. “I thought it was nice to hear that he was going too, although the choice is ultimately yours. But we are both Amsterdammers and Ajax is our club. So it was nice to hear that Kian was coming too.”
Fitz-Jim is now on nine gigs for Jong Ajax and made his first hit on Tuesday against FC Volendam in the Kuiken Champion Division. Hillen saw from the couch how his team gave away a 1-2 head start in an insane injury time and lost by 3-2: the defender stays on six performances for a while.
