Dream transfer gives Van de Beek ‘hectic and emotional’ week

His transfer to Manchester United completely messed up a decent preparation for the Interland of Orange with Poland. If anyone is relieved after a hectic week, it is Donny van de Beek.

“Just before the inter-country period it started to rumble. That’s why I didn’t play the practice match with Ajax either. Because of the medical examination I missed the first practice sessions,” says the new midfielder of Manchester United, who relieved goalkeeper Steven Bergwijn in the last quarter of an hour on Friday evening.

Manchester was also the club where 23-year-old Van de Beek wanted to go.

The midfielder from Nijkerkerveen has been following the record champion of the Premier League closely for years. “Many great Dutch footballers have played”, Van de Beek emphasizes. And maybe in ten years’ time they’ll talk so highly of him.

Beautiful midfield

If Van de Beek doesn’t betray the confidence of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he’ll play a beautiful midfield. With the Portuguese Bruno Fernandes and the French superstar Paul Pogba.

“The feeling was good, that’s why we got out. I also had a good conversation with the coach,” continued the midfielder. “He knew how to tell what my qualities were. Besides, I meet a lot of players my age, a lot of talents at United.”

Perhaps the longest he has thought about his back number 34, a tribute to his bosom friend Abdelhak Nouri. “That does bring with it some emotion. But the family is also happy with it.”

“I hope there are a lot of goals and assists with that song and I will win a lot of prizes”, the eleven-time international dreams. “It’s a great club, I’m hoping to do my bit.”
