Dutch entry Buladó does not go to Oscar

Buladó, the Dutch entry for the Oscars, did not make it to the shortlist in the category International Film. The film is not on the list published by the Academy Awards organization.

The film by director Eché Janga, including Everon Jackson Hooi, Tiara Richards and Felix de Rooy, was selected from thirteen Dutch applications.

The film premiered at the Dutch Film Festival in September. There, Buladó won a Golden Calf for best film. Its a family drama that takes place on Curaçao. Themes include farewell and grief processing, realism and mysticism. All the actors in the film have Antillian roots.

At the Dutch Film Festival we spoke with director Eché Janga:

The Danish entry Another Round (original title: Printing), which was partly financed by the Dutch Film Fund and co-produced by the Amsterdam company Topkapi, did get the list for the Oscars.

The Academy will announce the nominations for the Oscars on March 15. The prestigious film awards will be presented on 25 April.
