A Dutch soldier has been seriously injured in arms maintenance in Iraq. The man has been transferred to a military hospital in Baghdad in critical condition, reports the Ministry of Defense. He has a gunshot wound to the chest.
The soldier of the 11 Airmobile Brigade of the Royal Army is a member of the Dutch unit that secures the airfield of the northern Iraqi city of Erbil. Around 120 Dutch soldiers participate in that mission.
The Royal Military Police is investigating the incident. The victims family has been informed by the Defense Department. Commander of the Armed Forces Eichelsheim says his thoughts are with the military, his family and colleagues. “I am monitoring the situation closely.”
