At the Extrema Outdoor Extra dance festival in Houthalen-Helchteren, Belgium, a 54-year-old Dutchman died yesterday. According to news agency ANP, he had xtc pills in the bag of dangerous amounts of mdma.
The man suddenly became unwell at the festival grounds in the evening and was resuscitated on the spot. A little later, he was taken to the hospital in Genk in critical condition, where he died around 11pm. According to the Belgian Limburg Prosecutors Office, it is still investigating whether the drugs are related to the death of the man. The autopsy is yet to take place.
The drugs that the visitor had with them contain twice as much mdma as a normal xtc pill. The pills featured the logo of the fashion designer Philipp Plein.
The prosecutors office warns about the dangerous drugs on Twitter:
Yesterday, a 25-year-old man was arrested at the festival for allegedly dealing drugs. Its unclear if he sold the Philipp Plein pills in question.
The organiser of the festival says that he was attacked against Flemish media by the incident: “The news came in very hard. We had just started three days of Extrema Outdoor, three days of party, and then fate strikes.” The organization says it has no idea “about the circumstances” of the death.
With nearly 65,000 presale tickets, Extrema Outdoor Extra is the biggest festival in Belgium this year.
