Elton John is unable to resume his farewell tour this fall. Not because of corona measures, but because the superstar is suffering from an injury to his hip. His appearances in Europe and in the UK have been moved to 2023
74-year-old Elton has fallen during his summer break and has been in hip pain ever since. “Despite intensive physiotherapy and treatments from specialists, the pain has only gotten worse and that makes me feel less and less able to move”, the singer says Thursday in a statement.
Elton needs surgery soon so that the injury does not worsen. “I‘m going to follow an intensive physical therapy program that will make me fully recover and ensure that I will be fully mobile again and no more pain.”
Because of the corona pandemic, the pop icon had to postpone the shows earlier. He’s disappointed that you have to do this again now. “I know how patient my great fans have been since Covid made me stop touring last year and it breaks my heart to keep you waiting even longer. I feel your frustrations completely after the year we had. I promise you this: the shows will continue next year and I‘ll make sure they’re well worth the wait.”
Elton has been on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour since 2018. He came by in the Netherlands as early as 2019. A concert is also scheduled for June 9, 2022 at the Gelredome in Arnhem. That performance, like the other concerts scheduled for 2022, continues for now.
