Two employees of the highly secured ECI (Extra Protected Establishment) in Vught have been tested positively for the coronavirus. Some of the detainees have therefore been placed in preventive quarantine and they may temporarily not leave their cell. This confirms a spokesman for the Judicial Establishments Service (DJI) after reporting from the AD.
How many detainees have been quarantined, the spokesman cannot say. Theyre being tested on Wednesday. “At least until the outcome of the corontest, they must remain in their cell,” said the spokesman. Until then, the detainees cannot go to the gym, air with other detainees or contact their lawyers.
The EBI is the most secure prison in the Netherlands and currently there are notorious suspects such as Ridouan Taghi and Willem Holleeder.
Two weeks ago, it was announced that 137 of the more than 400 detainees in prison in Ter Apel were infected with corona. The prison went into lockdown. Also in the prison in Nieuwegein prisoners were infected with corona.
