Empty streets in Austria, country is back in lockdown

A lockdown has entered in Austria today. Events are not going on and all restaurants and shops are closed. Only important things, such as supermarkets, are open.

Few people have been vaccinated in the country and there are many infections. This makes it too busy in the hospitals. A lockdown is the only solution, politicians say. Also for people who have been vaccinated.

People are only allowed to go out for necessary things. For example, to do groceries or to go to work or school.

Not everyone is happy with the strict lockdown. This weekend, tens of thousands of Austrians took to the streets to protest.

Mandatory vaccination

The lockdown is valid for at least 10 days. That can still be extended. Furthermore, the government soon wants to oblige people to take a vaccination against corona.
