EU: Let Tokyo Games continue this summer

The European Union considers that the Olympic Games should continue next summer in Japan. The largest sports tournament in the world can imagine how the world moves together in the control of the coronapandemic, hope the EU and Japan.

There is an increasing number of votes to postpone the Summer Games, which are due to start in less than two months, or to delete them altogether. Japan is struggling with a new wave of coronavirus infections and vaccination is not going on for the time being.

But the EU and Japan ‘support the holding of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in a safe way this summer’, say Brussels and Tokyo after a joint video summit. โ€œAs a symbol of global unanimity in defeating the pandemic.โ€

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said afterwards that โ€œwe are looking forward to the Games.โ€ According to Von der Leyen, the EU is trying to help Japan with this, inter alia, the supply of coronavaccines.
