Ex-footballer Metzelder indicted for possession and distribution of child pornography

Former footballer Christoph Metzelder has been indicted by the German Public Prosecutor’s Office for the possession and distribution of child pornography. Almost three hundred child pornography files have been found on the mobile phone of the 39-year-old German, reports the weekly Der Spiegel.

Metzelder played 47 international matches, including the World Cup finals in 2002 and the European Championship finals in 2008.

A year and a day ago, on 3 September 2019, the police seized his phone and laptop after a tip from a woman in Hamburg. After an investigation of one year, an official accusation against Metzelder has been pending since today.

The former defender of, among others, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Schalke 04 is alleged not only to have been in possession of pornographic images, but also to have sold them to third parties. Both Metzelder and his lawyer did not want to respond to questions.
