Excelsior disables Roda JC

Excelsior eliminated Roda JC in the first round of the playoffs. After a missed penalty by Thijs Dallinga, an extension was necessary in Kerkrade, but Couhaib Driouech still made the difference: the Kralingers know who will be their opponent after the last Eredivisie round.
Both teams tied 2-2 in Kralingen and made it an open first half during the return in Kerkrade, in which miraculously did not score. Roda top shooter Dylan Vente stumbled upon goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel and Bryan Limbombe squandered the rebound. Later, Van Gassel also narrowly rescued from a deployment by Patrick Pflรผcke.
On the other hand, Daryl Werker was the saving angel on the line at Roda JC and Rody de Boer miraculously stopped an effort by Thijs Dallinga. Excelsior also claimed a penalty in vain after a charge by Amir Absalem on Marouan Azarkan.
The same Azarkan also caused the most threat on behalf of Excelsior after halftime, but the chances slowly but surely dried up. At the start of the last quarter, Davy van den Berg suddenly caused a penalty kick. Kitchen Champion Division top scorer Dallinga explained, but De Boer stopped his penalty and ensured that the game was extended.
Dallinga saw another goal rejected, but in the extra minutes the dime quickly fell on the side of Marinus Dijkhuizen and his men. After a duel between Dallinga and Werker, the ball remained in the penalty area and Driouech poked it in: 0-1. Deep in the injury time, Excelsior even countered 0-2 via Nikolas Agrafiotis, after which it was immediately finished in Kerkrade.
Excelsior hits the number sixteen of the Premier League in the second round and thus hears who will be Wednesdays opponent on Sunday. Earlier it became clear that FC Eindhoven and ADO Den Haag will meet in the other semifinals.
