Fabio Jakobsen will be heard again after horror crash

Fabio Jakobsen has been heard again on social media. The rider of Deceuninck-QuickStep experienced a horror crash in early August, when he was overthrown by Dylan Groenwegen. โ€œThe wounds/scars on my face heal well.โ€

The cyclist from Heukelum says: โ€œThe last two months were about my recovery after my crash in the Tour of Poland. First of all, I had to recover for a long time from my brain contusion and other bruises/injuries.โ€

He continues: โ€œI would like to thank all the employees of the LUMC and in particular Dr. H. Locher and M. Hendriksma for the good care they have taken over the past few months. On October 8th, I will have a second surgery to reconstruct my face/mouth.โ€

Pieces of bone

According to Jakobsen, the operation is about placing pieces of bone in his upper and lower jaw. โ€œBecause there‘s a lot of bone missing. This bone will have to heal for several months.โ€

And then it’s not over for the unfortunate rider. โ€œAfter that, there will be another surgery to put implants in my jaw so that I can get new teeth because I lost them during my crash.โ€
