Facebook has banned former US President Donald Trump for two years. His account was suspended earlier due to sedition. Trump is no longer welcome on the biggest social media, because he is also an unwanted person on Twitter. The exiles came after the attack on the Capitol on January 6 by Trumps supporters.
Trump responded quickly to his exile. “This is an insult to 75 million American voters. Facebook shouldnt get away with this censorship. Well win eventually. Our country can no longer cope with these abuses.”
The former president will be able to recover his account after two years if he meets the required conditions. A team of experts will have to investigate whether he can be re-admitted to Facebook. “If we think he still poses a threat to public security, we extend the suspension,” said Facebook Vice President Nick Clegg in a statement. If Trump gets his account back, but if he violates the guidelines shortly thereafter, he could be banned again.
Facebook has immediately announced that new rules have been drawn up for exceptional cases, such as Trumps suspension. Politicians are no longer protected because of their jobs. If they post misleading or offensive messages, they will no longer be tolerated because of possible newsworthy, but the messages will be deleted.
“ Given the severity of the circumstances that led to Trumps suspension, we believe that his conduct was a serious violation of our rules. That is why we have given him the highest punishment possible under our new rules,” says Clegg.
