FC Barcelona determined: ‘We won’t let Messi go just like that

FC Barcelona is not going to let Lionel Messi just leave. That’s what technical director Ramon Plánes says. “Messi has given us so much, we will fight to restore the relationship”, says Plánes.

Messi’s management informed the board of Barcelona on Tuesday that the Argentine star player wants to leave. Messi wants his contract, which runs until the summer of 2021, to be terminated immediately. Barcelona does not agree to this for the time being.

Plánes: “We want to build a new team around Messi. He is the best player in the world. There is no discussion internally. Anyone who has a bit of an understanding of football wants Messi on his team. He is a winner, we are winners and we want to win again.”

Barcelona expects Messi on training field

According to Plánes, the messages are not correct that Messi will not come forward at the start of the preparation. The players of FC Barcelona have to report for a mandatory coronation test on Sunday, after which the first training under the direction of Ronald Koeman is scheduled on Monday.

Koeman let us know earlier that he likes to work with Messi. “I have to make him function, make him feel important. He has to finish his career here, because he is Barcelona and Barcelona is Messi,” Koeman said after his appointment.

The technical director made his statements about the current situation around Messi at the presentation of Francisco Trincão as a new player of Barcelona. The transfer of the Portuguese, who will receive more than 30 million euros from SC Braga, was already concluded in January.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu, who is under fire because of the situation around Messi, chose a role in the background of the presentation. That is why technical director Plánes had to answer the questions about Messi.
