FC Barcelona has also won the seventh competition match of this calendar year. The team of trainer Ronald Koeman did not have too many problems with Alavés (5-1) and that was taken three days before Paris Saint-Germain became the opponent in Camp Nou in the eighth finals of the Champions League.
The Portuguese Francisco Trincão opened the score in the 29th minute, a week after he decided the duel with Betis (2-3) with his first league hit. A few minutes later it appeared to be 2-0 after Lionel Messi had shot out of the rebound hit. Antoine Griezmann, the man who first encountered goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco, appeared to have come out of the game. In the injury time of the first half it was still a hit for Messi, whose shot ended up in the target through the inside of the pole.
In the 57th minute, a goal of Luis Rioja brought the tension back somewhat though Barcelona dominated. Trincão, Messi and Junior Firpo eventually provided a large margin: 5-1.
Through the victory, Barcelona remains at 8 points of the leader Atlético Madrid, who won earlier in the day.
Small victory Atlético Madrid
Atletico Madrid managed to recover well from the midweek loss of points against Celta de Vigo. The leader of the Primera Divison won a visit to Granada with 1-2 times.
Marcos Llorente put Atletico on the lead after more than an hour. He surprised goalkeeper Rui Silva with a shot in the short corner. Only a few minutes later it was already the same. Yangel Herrera was responsible for this, after poorly defending on the side of the club from the capital.
Luckily, Atletico once again came ahead. Angel Correa scored, partly because defender Jesus Vallejo changed his commitment direction. This time Granada had no answer. That meant the sixteenth victory in the last eighteen matches in the league.
Atletico Madrid has now played eight points ahead of Real Madrid and one less match.
Small victory Sevilla
Luuk de Jong was able to start a league match in the base on Saturday afternoon for the first time in a long time (2 January). The striker could not forget Youssef En-Nesyri in the ample hour of playing time he received. Just before De Jong was exchanged against Huesca, Sevilla came ahead via Munir El Haddadi, who made the only goal of the match.
Because of the victory, Sevilla is now third in the league. The backlog at Atlético Madrid is nine points.
