Not his old club FC Twente, but FC Utrecht took off last week with the signature of Hidde ter Avest. The defender understands the disappointment in Enschede.
Twente director Jan Streuer announced that he was a tad disappointed in Ter Avest, when it turned out that he was going to trade Udinese for Utrecht. “Thats a compliment,” responds the 23-year-old protagonist against Football International.
“At least I wanted to go back to the Netherlands. I played less and less in Italy and that coronage didnt make it any easier. Everyone knows what happened in Italy. In the end, I spent four or five months practically at home.”
Ter Avest has carefully weighed the options, he says. “Twente was one of them. I had a good conversation with them. But the story of Utrecht also appealed to me. A stable club, one with ambition. Thats how I came to my choice.”
