FC Twente didnt really show up sparkling in the Grolsch Veste, but the Tukkers are through to the final heat of the Conference League. FK Cukaricki was defeated again, this time 4-1, resulting in a heavy diptych against Fiorentina waiting for Twente.
A week earlier, Twente already recorded a nice 1-3 victory in Serbia, which allowed the number four of the Eredivisie to live up to the return with a good feeling. Cukaricki, however, started the competition strongly in Enschede. The visitors were immediately dangerous and came to score after just seven minutes. Luka Adzic, the striker of PEC Zwolle last season, escaped from Joshua Brenets back and hit: 0-1.
As a result, the tension was completely back in the diptych. Cukaricki remained dangerous, making things go in the wrong direction for Twente. However, captain Robin Pröpper got up in the fifteenth minute: he got the ball in front of his feet after a free kick and shot Twente at the same height again. The hit clearly did the team of Ron Jans well, because Twente became stronger and Cukaricki ended up in the tribulation.
More than ten minutes before the break, this also provided the lead for the home team. Daan Rost came through on the right and managed to find Michel Vlap with a cross. The midfielder then nodded the 2-1 against the ropes. That was also the stand that was on the scoreboard at rest.
In the second half, Cukaricki had to score three times to be able to drag an extension out of the fire. Although Twente became more sloppy, Serbias number two did not benefit from it. When the game had actually already been played, Christos Tzolis managed to take his moment for a while. With two delightful pulls, he came to score twice. In doing so, he set the final score at 4-1.
As a result, Twente has advanced to the final heat of the Conference League. Now the Tukkers have to deal with Fiorentina to reach the main tournament. In a week, the first meeting is already scheduled, in Florence.
