Leroy Fer is not right to blame, after the lost cup match against sc Heerenveen, in the shoes of Steven Berghuis. The Feyenoord captain collected a red card at a 1-3 lead, after which Heerenveen turned the race and won 4-3.
“Its easy to blame one player who gets a red card,” says Fer in front of ESPNs camera. “I think that as a team — including ten men — we give such goals away too easily. Its not allowed, not even with ten men.”
The 31-year-old auditor is convinced that Berghuis knows he took too much risk with all yellow in his pocket, by putting a sliding on Rami Kaib. “Hes a self-critical boy, so he knows that himself.”
According to Fer, after the game, it was very quiet in the Feyenoord dressing room. “We are all disappointed of course. Then there is a great silence, because winning the cup was one of our goals.”
