Ferdinand praises De Jong: ‘He was the pivot of the team’

Rio Ferdinand praises Frenkie de Jongs qualities. The legend of Manchester United believes that the Orange international can bring new impetus to the British superpower.
De Jong has been in serious interest from The Mancunians for a while now. Manager Erik ten Hag would like to bring the former Ajax song to Old Trafford and Ferdinand understands that. “I think Frenkie would be a really good purchase,” says the former United defender in his podcast FIVE. “I followed him closely, especially in the year when Ajax reached the semi-final of the Champions League. He was the linchpin in the team and perhaps the best player on that team.”
In July 2019, De Jong swapped Ajax for FC Barcelona. In Catalonia, the Dutch international came to a new position and, according to Ferdinand, he does not come into its own there. “He is best when he gets the ball and makes meters. Then De Jong can dribble, make feints and pass players. He can also open the game and give a nice pass between the lines,” says the 43-year-old Englishman.
