Danilho Doekhi looks back on his departure at Ajax in conversation with RTV Rijnmond. There was no breakthrough in Amsterdam, so he chose Vitesse in 2018.
Doekhi is a Rotterdammer and played in the youth of Excelsior. Rijnmond asks him why he didn‘t go to Feyenoord. “Well, I don’t know. It turned out like this. I played with Excelsior in the youth. Eventually, Ajax came and I went there. Feyenoord didn‘t come, so it was never an option. Now I play with Vitesse and Jong Oranje and try to develop myself and do my best.”
The step from Excelsior to Ajax was a great, says Doekhi. “In terms of facilities, professionalism and level, this is a nice step up. With Jong Ajax we became champion in the Jupiler League. I felt like I was ready for the Eredivisie, but that didn’t happen at Ajax. So I had to look further. Then Vitesse came. A nice club, a subtopper. That‘s where I’m in the base right now. This is now my third season, I‘m developing and that’s good for a young player.”
