Feyenoord final placed next to World Cup final: ‘Experienced yourself in South Africa’

Bert van Marwijk thinks experience will play a major role in the Conference League final between Feyenoord and AS Roma. The former national coach of the Dutch team points to the World Cup Final in 2010.
Jens Toornstra, Gernot Trauner, Ofir Marciano and Bryan Linssen are the only thirty-somethings in Feyenoord‘s selection. Experience can be the deciding factor, says Van Marwijk. โ€œWith experience, it is often different to play a final. I experienced it myself in South Africaโ€, he has recorded by Voetbal International. โ€œSpain played the World Cup Final with almost the same team that had won the European Championships two years earlier. In addition, almost all players had already won a Champions League once.โ€
โ€œNobody had won a European Championship with us and Wesley Sneijder won the Champions League with Inter that year, only Mark van Bommel and Giovanni van Bronckhorst succeeded,โ€ continues the former trainer. โ€œExperience can make the difference.โ€ Although in the selection of Arne Slot no one has ever played a final of a European tournament, Roma does not have the necessary experience, according to Van Marwijk, either.
โ€œI’
m estimating it at fifty-fifty. Maybe Feyenoord has a better chance,โ€ he says. โ€œEveryone knows what Mourinho is going to do, namely the same as five years ago with Manchester United against Ajax. Feyenoord can adjust to that.โ€
