‘Feyenoord still in the race: Rotterdammers are waiting for Chelsea’

Feyenoord has not given up hope for Ian Maatsen yet. Where recently it was reported that the Chelsea left back had thanked for a transfer to Rotterdam South, the fork is in the handle differently.
Maatsen is seen at Feyenoord as a suitable successor to Tyrell Malacia, who left for Manchester United. The 20-year-old defender is eligible for a rental at Chelsea. They are still working on Maatsen in the background, reveals club watcher Martijn Krabbendam of Voetbal International at the ESPN programme Voetbaltalk. Whether he opted out of Feyenoord? Well, he just had to report to Chelsea.
He is not on a training camp to America, so that means he can be rented out, Krabbendam continues. Whether that is again only possible in the Championship, or whether it can also be at Feyenoord? Those are things that are now being sorted out. Against Red Bull Salzburg, Marcus Pedersen and Jorrit Hendrix were used as left-back by Arne Slot. He (Hendrix, ed.) is of course not a left-back for the coming season. Two left wing defenders is a priority.
Maatsen originally comes from the youth program of Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam. In 2015, he switched to PSV, only to transfer to Chelsea three years later. For the past two seasons, he has been on loan to Charlton Athletic and Coventry City respectively.
