Feyenoord had it hard for 45 minutes with Willem II on Sunday, but eventually the opponent from Tilburg was deprived of perspective on a good result in no time: 5-0.
Until the injury time of the first half the team of Zeljko Petrovic participated well in De Kuip, but then Feyenoord, with goalkeeper Justin Bijlow back in the team after months, found it. Jens Toornstra opened the score. After the break, Bryan Linssen and Luis Sinisterra finished the job with hits in the 49th and 52nd minutes.
After more than an hour of football, Steven Berghuis also scored a goal. The wing attacker hit target from the penaltytip. It meant the twelfth Eredivision goal for Berghuis this season. Only PSV striker Donyell Malen (thirteen goals) and Giorgos Giakoumakis (21 goals) made more goals this season than the born Apeldoorner.
Because of the victory, Feyenoord now occupies the fifth place in the Eredivisie. The backlog on front runner Ajax is twelve points with thirteen rounds ahead of the bow. Number two PSV has six points more than Dick Lawyer‘s team, but played one more game. For the time being, the quailing Willem II does not go further than the sixteenth place.
Lawyer – Petrovic
For both Lawyer and Petrovic, it was a special meeting. The two worked together regularly in the past, until two weeks ago also in De Kuip. The Montegrenijn served as an assistant to Lawyer, but the call of becoming head coach in Tilbug, Petrovic could not resist.
Lawyer enjoyed joy in the team It was for Feyenoord
the biggest victory in the Eredivisie led by trainer Dick Advocate. “Even at a stand of 5-0, you saw that we were still threatening and looking for the 6-0. It was fun to watch,” said the 73-year-old Hagenaar.
Lawyer confessed that he had enjoyed a lot less in the first half. “Fortunately, the players themselves noticed that. With any luck, we got ahead just before rest. In the locker room, the players themselves said: “We can’t go on like this. And they were absolutely right about that. As a team we started to put pressure earlier and Willem II had difficulty with that.” In the first 7 minutes of the second half, Feyenoord ran from 1-0 to 3-0.
“The joy radiated from the team. I hadn‘t seen that for a while,” said Advocate, who was still considering resigning two weeks ago after the blamage at sc Heerenveen (3-0). “There is a positive atmosphere again. This team took 6 points in two matches and scored eight goals. They do well.” Wednesday, Feyenoord will play again against Heerenveen in the quarter-finals of the cup tournament. “Hopefully we’ll do better than last time.”
Despite losing ‘a very nice moment’
Sven van Beek, the mercenary of Feyenoord, was at the start of a race in the Eredivisie for the first time in almost two years. And all this against the club for which he played almost his entire career.
“ For me, this is just a very nice moment,” said Van Beek, who has been haunted by injury eleed in recent years, at ESPN. “For two years I had to fight very hard to get fit again, day in, day out. I chose to leave Feyenoord this winter so I can make playing minutes at Willem II. To play here in De Kuip for the first time, is very special.”
Upon arrival at the stadium, he wanted to turn left, as usual, towards the dressing room of Feyenoord. “Yes, I made a feint to the left, but of course I had to go to the right, to the dressing room for the away team,” said Van Beek laughing. “This defeat is very annoying, especially the way it happened. In 7 minutes after rest, we gave away the game. I can‘t. I’m very angry about that, too. We have to learn from this. But personally I am proud of this moment.”
