Arne Slot finds it special that Feyenoord is in the final of the Conference League against AS Roma next week. The trainer of the Rotterdammers does not agree with the doubts about the third club tournament in Europe, although he understands that somewhat.
“In the beginning, there were not only strong teams in the Conference League. I understand that in the initial phase people have expressed themselves a little hesitant about the level”, Slot van wal talks to Feyenoord TV. “But if you take it on us, youll see in the group stage that we had to play against two current champions and Bundesliga number five,” he refers to Slavia Prague, Maccabi Haifa and Union Berlin. “Then that is a very good achievement, especially given the recent history of Feyenoord in which no away match was won at all and our initial situation.”
Feyenoord embarked on a European victory that led to the final in Tirana next week. “Nobody could have expected that, but that doesnt mean were satisfied.” Only José Mourinhos AS Roma can still put a spanner in the final. “You see Mourinhos hand again,” he analyzes the Italian opponent. “They are hard to beat, especially in matches they live to. They emphatically do this in the knockout phase of the Conference League. It is incredibly nice – when you look at the trainer – that he also manages to make them play a European final at Roma.”
