Finland debutant EK stunt overshadowed by Eriksen events

Football was a bit of an afterthought during a chilling EC-night in Copenhagen. Finland stunted against Denmark during its EC-debut but that match was overshadowed by the events surrounding Christian Eriksen: the playmaker collapsed at the end of the first half, had to be re-animated on the field and was transported to the hospital.
Finland started the game with a defensive attitude and gambled on the counterattack with striker Teemu Pukki. Denmark prevailed but had no big chances and the first half seemed to go out like a night candle. Just before rest, however, the stadium fell silent after Eriksen went to the ground in the corner of the field. Internazionales playmaker was resuscitated on the field, had to go to the side by stretcher and was hospitalized.
The game was then silent for almost two hours. After good news came through the hospital โ€” the Danish players even spoke to Eriksen, Federal President Peter Mรถller confirmed โ€” the match was resumed. When sixty minutes were on the clock, there was even a goal. Joel Pohjanpalo crawled for his opponent, surprised goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and made the very first Finnish hit at a final tournament.
After celebrating this first subdued, Denmark went on the hunt for the equalizer. Fifteen minutes before, Yussuf Poulsen lightly came into contact with Paul Arajuuri and the Danes received a penalty. However, he was slickly shot by Pierre-Emile Hรธjbjerg: Lukรกs Hrรกdecky gambled on the right corner and could turn off the penalty kick.
In the closing quarter and the four-minute extra time, the Finns had been blown for the Finns. That also succeded, despite a handful of precious moments for Hrรกdecky
s purpose. The EC-debutant is taking the lead in Poule B. Belgium and Russia will be in action later on Saturday. As it looks right now, Finland and Denmark are going to take action just on Wednesday and Thursday: Finland-Russia is first scheduled, one day later Denmark-Belgium will be played.
