First Dutch volunteers receive coronavirus vaccine next month

The vaccine for Coronavirus (Covid-19) will be administered to a total of 550 people in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany. In the Netherlands there will be 135 volunteers at three locations. They will receive the drug at the end of September.

The volunteers in the so-called Phase 2a study are given different doses. The aim is to find out what the side effects of these doses are and how the human body reacts. A phase 1 study is currently under way in Belgium and the United States, the first results of which are expected shortly.

Third phase

The European Commission plans to order 200 to 400 million Janssen vaccines. Should the drug be a success, it will therefore also become available in the Netherlands. It is expected that this will be in the spring at the earliest.
