Pete Buttigieg, the first openly gay US minister, and his husband Chasten have introduced their newborn twins on social media. “We are excited to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family,” Buttigieg writes on Twitter:
Buttigieg had already announced last month that his husband and he had become parents. US media outlets then reported that the couple had been in the process of adoption proceedings for a long time.
Under the tweet, many people congratulate the new parents. Other gay couples who adopted children years earlier post a photo graph of their families when congratulating them with the words: “We wish you all the blessings of fatherhood.”
Buttigieg is Transport Minister in President Bidens government. Buttigieg was unknown to the general public until he entered the Democratic presidential primary in 2019. He was the mayor of South Bend in the state of Indiana at the time.
